Emily is a 28 year old single mother who is raising her 3 year old son with no help from the boy’s father. She is an executive assistant at a high tech communications firm. The salary, along with her work schedule, is very conducive to raising her son in a way where she could spend the maximum amount of quality time available to both of them.
However, one small thing was lacking… Emily realized she could not be the boy’s father too. The boy’s father bailed out on her when he found out she was pregnant. Emily understood the ramifications totally. There was a small part of her that wanted to believe she could fill both set of “shoes”, but Emily knew she could not.
Taking the initiative, Emily set out to find a man that would be a part of her and her son’s life. She met such a man, or she thought when Marcus entered their lives. Marcus gave the appearance of possessing all the qualities needed to make Emily’s life complete. He fulfilled all of his commitments to her, but yet there was something not so transparent about him.
In order to accommodate the new growth in the family, a bigger house was desired. Marcus, however, resisted this idea giving the excuse that is just wasn’t necessary. Emily played out a hunch and ran a background and credit check on Marcus. She found out that while Marcus may be a responsible man on the surface, he was up to his eyeballs in debt. Debt that had she hitched to her wagon too, would have been her debt as well. She thought “thank God for access to credit reports!”
Emily has her faults, as everyone does, but she believes in being transparent. If people see the situation for “what it is” they will always come out on top. Although she lost Marcus, do you know what she gained? Peace of Mind! Clearing up lingering issues either personal or financial is always a good thing.
The moral of this story: Live life with no skeletons in your closet!
